Wander Through Time and Tales at Woodchester

Nestled among the trees in the heart of Muskoka, Woodchester is a place where history, nature, and imagination come together. Whether you're looking to learn about local heritage, enjoy a peaceful afternoon walk, or share a story with little ones, the Woodchester grounds offer something special for everyone.

Lucky the Maple Key on the Storybook Trail

One of the highlights of a visit to Woodchester is the charming Storybook Trail, a short and scenic path featuring a uniquely local tale: “Lucky the Maple Key.”

Written by local author Sue Kelly and illustrated by artist Ronnie Szostak, this delightful story introduces readers to Lucky, a curious maple key learning about life and growth in the forest. Created especially for the Town’s 150-year anniversary, the story was installed on July 15, 2025.

As you wind along the trail, you'll pass eight colourful story panels that blend seamlessly into the parkland surroundings, making this an ideal outdoor reading adventure for families, curious minds, and nature lovers of all ages.

There’s also a beary special new addition to the Storybook Trail — a beautifully detailed wooden bear sculpture carved and donated by Precision Carvings.

A New View from the Trees

Inspired by Woodchester’s own unique architecture, the observation deck provides a peaceful, elevated view of the Muskoka River, framed by old-growth forest and the distant rooftops of Downtown Bracebridge.

It's the perfect place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds this historic site.

History buffs and curious visitors alike are invited to step inside Woodchester itself. From now to August 28, 2025, the Town is offering free guided tours every Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

These tours offer a unique opportunity to explore the landmark’s architecture and stories, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how the Bracebridge Digital Archive is preserving our past for future generations. Registration is required and space is limited, so plan ahead!
